Home Movies: Resident Evil Retribution

By Dan Pua

I had an internal debate on whether my thoughts on this even deserves some space on the internet but ehh, whatever. At least you get that pic above (courtesy of nipponnews.net) from the world premiere in Japan. Fun times.

(Very very minor spoilers below. But c’mon, it’s Resident Evil.)

This movie was kinda bad but kinda awesome. Milla Jovovich wakes up inside an Umbrella Corp underwater testing facility which simulates zombie attacks on major cities. This thing is huge (it has to be if they’re replicating entire cities in it) which makes me wonder where they got all the money. But whatever, it must be destroyed cos it’s evil. EVIL!

This was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Milla Jovovich's husband) and he's directed 3 out of the 5 Resident Evil Movies so far. He's set to direct the 6th (yes, there's gonna be a 6th film).

A bunch of old Resident Evil characters show up. I like Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine (her outfit was awesome, I'm sorry). Oded Fehr is in it and I find it hard to see him as anything other than his character in Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo. Michelle Rodriguez was in it too. Ana Lucia from Lost!

Oh hey, Kevin Durand who plays a mean special forces guy on Lost (plus some guest starring roles here and there) is in the movie. Always nice to see him. He was a bad guy in Stargate SG-1 for any fans out there. That’s actually where I first became aware of him. Also the Blob in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And apparently he was Thug 1 in Jackie Chan Adventures. Sounds like an awesome role!

This is going on super tangent territory but Kevin Durand was also in the movie Cosmopolis which stars Robert Pattinson (Edward from the critically acclaimed Twilight film franchise). Good to see Kevin on there but I had no idea what was going on in the movie. Or maybe I didn’t care. Or both. The movie was pretty though. I also saw a few minutes of the movie Legion while channel surfing and I guess he was a bad angel in it. Or a good angel cos the good guy is bad. Or something. I may have ADD.

So yeah, the gang fight zombies plus some giant monsters, blow stuff up, look like a badass while doing it, wear sexy outfits. Then they end it on a cliffhanger of sorts. Standard Resident Evil formula. The next movie seems like it could be the last though but hey, I’m sure they’ll find a way to keep it going if enough people watch it. I'll be watching.

I dunno, it’s still fun. Milla Jovovich doesn’t look like she’s ageing. Good for her.

Boob Toob Supplemental: The Weirdo Edition

S'up Boobers and Toobers! It's been a while but I'm back (it's Dan, by the way) with some Boob Toob Supplemental! Now with more weirdness! First two might be NSFW, might be a good idea to put your headphones on if there's someone else in the room.

Biting Elbows - 'Bad Motherfucker' (Insane Office Escape 2)

Or 'Reservoir Dogs Looking Dudes Doing Crazy Stuff: The Video Game (The Movie)'

I don't think the concept of filming an action sequence like a first person shooter is super unique but I think it's done really well and I like it! Plus bewbs and planes... can't go wrong :)

100 Greatest Nicolas Cage Quotes

This needs no introduction. Also, how awesome would a Nic Cage box set be?

Ask Axe Cop

I've read the comic and I can't believe this is being made as a cartoon. They do the comic like a proper one with a story and everything but they also do these short 'Ask Axe Cop' segments where people (not sure if they're fake people or real people) write letters and Axe Cop answers them.

It's that special kind of weird. Something would happen in the comic and maybe I should feel bad about it but I'm laughing at it which makes me feel even more like I should feel bad because I'm laughing at the thing that maybe I shouldn't be laughing at.

How's that for confusing?

Sydney Festival TV: Rubber Duck

Super late but I saw this in person back in January. Pretty fun seeing it up close. It's huge! There was a big gust of wind while I was there and it was fun seeing it move around. Here's a bit of background info:

And here are some time lapse videos:

Speaking of time lapse videos...

Building the World's Largest Ship (in 76 seconds)

Less weird and more amazing. I love these sorts of time lapse pics, especially when it involves building something huge. I have the equipment to do this but I've been very lazy and haven't gotten around to doing one.

From Petapixel. And last but not least...

Taekwondo Spider-Man

Don't know what to say except I was hypnotised. I loved the tatsumaki senpukyaku at the 1 min 32 sec mark.

Home Movies: A Dangerous Method

"A Dangerous Method is a 2011 historical film directed by David Cronenberg and starring Keira Knightley, Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender, and Vincent Cassel.

Set on the eve of World War I, A Dangerous Method describes the turbulent relationships between Carl Jung, founder of analytical psychology, Sigmund Freud, founder of the discipline of psychoanalysis, and Sabina Spielrein, initially a patient of Jung and later a physician and one of the first female psychoanalysts."

Dan is on vacation and I (Bobgar) watched A Dangerous Method last night. I don't want to speak about the plot of the story save the quoted text above because it is a story that must be experienced. It was a completely engrossing story with captivating performances by all the actors. It is an excellent film that is relentless in its portrayal of the individual's practices.  In my estimation it is a near perfect film, although admittedly some scenes are quite difficult to witness.  Recommended.

The underbite was a nice touch too.

WHYBW: Updates

What up boobers and toobers? It's Dan once again, blooging from the Northern Hemisphere for once. Not many readers might care about this but I thought I'd do a quick update on some of the WHYBW shows that I've mentioned in past Boob Toob episodes, just to see what I'm still watching and what I'm still digging.

Last Resort: I'm still enjoying it although the characters are getting a little comfortable where they are. I'd prefer if they weren't but not a big deal. It'll only be 13 eps though so I hope they wrap things up nicely.

666 Park Avenue: I'm a few eps behind. Still fun to watch but the fact that I'm behind means that it's not exactly must see tv for me at the moment. That said, I did a Melbourne vacation for a few days in Nov and now I'm in the Philippines for the whole of Dec so that'll mess up my viewing patterns.

Elementary: I think I'm only up to ep 3 or 4. It's fun but I'm happy to pile up eps. They really don't seem like Sherlock and Watson. I would've been fine if they had different names.

Homeland: Still loving it. Even the daughter storyline is becoming tolerable. I'm gonna try to get my in laws here in the Philippines into it. They've heard that it's good but they haven't seen it yet.

Sword Art Online: They're onto the second major story arc and I gotta say it's not as compelling as the first arc. Things slowed down quite a bit and there's a few story elements that I'm not all that interested in. It's almost over though so I'm happy to wait it out.
