No Man's Sky featurette

Short little video on the story of Hello Games, the studio behind upcoming PS4 game No Man's Sky. This game looks and sounds so damn good, I may have to buy a PS4 just for it.

Lupin the Third live action movie trailer

YES! The world's greatest thief, Arsène Lupin III, finally gets a live action adaptation!*

The movie comes out in Japan on August 30 and it's directed by Ryuhei Kitamura who also directed films such as Versus, Godzilla: Final Wars and apparently Midnight Meat Train which I've never seen but sounds interesting enough based on the title. He also directed the in game cutscenes for the video game Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes which is a Game Cube remake of the original Playstation game Metal Gear Solid. He's a cool dude.

The movie looks beautiful and I love how the characters look and seem to act a lot like the manga/anime versions of themselves. Fujiko is crazy hot, as she should since her character is a bit of a seductress. Can't wait to see it!

Talk of the Town

ABC's Australian Story recently did a feature on Aussie singer Megan Washington. She talked about her fear of public speaking and her debilitating stutter. It was really engaging and well done and made me care for this person who I never heard of before (I'm not hip and up to date with what the cool kids listen to). Birdman trailer

I never understood the term 'batshit insane' until I saw this trailer. No idea what it's about and I don't think I wanna know, I just wanna go in there without knowing any info. Also, aw yeah Keaton being Keaton! And a bunch of other famous peeps are in it too. Bobgar likes Edward Norton and he's in here. Gotta see this movie NOW!

Here's a good animated short film by South Korean studio Alfred Imageworks (check out their Vimeo page for some other videos). And by good, I mean Pixar level in terms of animation and also the humour and quirkiness although I admit there's a point in the animated short where things diverge from the usual Pixar fare.

It's about a space delivery man and one of the things that happens when he's out delivering a package. Sooooo funny and I kinda wish they'd do more of it, just him going to different planets and delivering stuff. Oh wait, they already made Futurama.

Anyway, this short film is 5 mins long so please do me a favour and watch it. Especially you, Bobgar!

Project 2501 - Homage to Ghost in the Shell

These guys are taking fan tributes to the next level! As the title suggests, this is a homage to Mamoru Oshii's film, Ghost in the Shell, based on Masamune Shirow's manga of the same name. What they've done is they've recreated the film's opening sequence using a series of still images they've created with a mix of live action and computer generate imagery. Be warned: there is nudity.

Check out Hollywood graphic designer Ash Thorp's website to see the awesome still images they've created plus a list of the people involved. Seriously, go there and check it out cos they're amazing. Well done to Ash Thorp and his team.

Home Movies: Resident Evil Retribution

I had an internal debate on whether my thoughts on this even deserves some space on the internet but ehh, whatever. At least you get that pic above (courtesy of nipponnews.net) from the world premiere in Japan. Fun times.

(Very very minor spoilers below. But c’mon, it’s Resident Evil.)

This movie was kinda bad but kinda awesome. Milla Jovovich wakes up inside an Umbrella Corp underwater testing facility which simulates zombie attacks on major cities. This thing is huge (it has to be if they’re replicating entire cities in it) which makes me wonder where they got all the money. But whatever, it must be destroyed cos it’s evil. EVIL!

This was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Milla Jovovich's husband) and he's directed 3 out of the 5 Resident Evil Movies so far. He's set to direct the 6th (yes, there's gonna be a 6th film). 

A bunch of old Resident Evil characters show up. I like Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine (her outfit was awesome, I'm sorry). Oded Fehr is in it and I find it hard to see him as anything other than his character in Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo. Michelle Rodriguez was in it too. Ana Lucia from Lost!

Oh hey, Kevin Durand who plays a mean special forces guy on Lost (plus some guest starring roles here and there) is in the movie. Always nice to see him. He was a bad guy in Stargate SG-1 for any fans out there. That’s actually where I first became aware of him. Also the Blob in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And apparently he was Thug 1 in Jackie Chan Adventures. Sounds like an awesome role!

This is going on super tangent territory but Kevin Durand was also in the movie Cosmopolis which stars Robert Pattinson (Edward from the critically acclaimed Twilight film franchise). Good to see Kevin on there but I had no idea what was going on in the movie. Or maybe I didn’t care. Or both. The movie was pretty though. I also saw a few minutes of the movie Legion while channel surfing and I guess he was a bad angel in it. Or a good angel cos the good guy is bad. Or something. I may have ADD.

So yeah, the gang fight zombies plus some giant monsters, blow stuff up, look like a badass while doing it, wear sexy outfits. Then they end it on a cliffhanger of sorts. Standard Resident Evil formula. The next movie seems like it could be the last though but hey, I’m sure they’ll find a way to keep it going if enough people watch it. I'll be watching.

I dunno, it’s still fun. Milla Jovovich doesn’t look like she’s ageing. Good for her.
